was made in 2008 when Barack Obama became the 44th President of the United States of America, the first African-American to do so. Now that his four-year term in the white house is winding down and he is running for re-election in the upcoming 2012 elections, many people who supported Obama in the past are now concerned.
Throughout the Columbia community, our friends and families would like to know, “What exactly has President Obama done during his time in office?”
It may be more than you think you know!
From providing better armor for the Military troops, to appointing the first Latina to the Supreme Court, President Obama has done a lot in his Oval Office during his first term.
Since this is a magazine and not a history book, we will provide you with some of the key accomplishments during his term.

The $789 billion economic stimulus plan
This deal, made by Congress, was proposed as a way to reduce the damaged economy and put money back into our pockets.

Hybrid write-offs
If the car you just brought happens to be a hybrid, you can write it off on your taxes. This attractive tax write-off encourages people to purchase hybrids which are environmentally friendly.

Cash for Clunkers
The Car Allowance Rebate System, or “Cash for Clunkers,” was a way to get the dirty, fuel eating , less efficient cars off the roadways and allow us to help boost the economy by proving money to help purchase, safer, cleaner, ad more efficient automobiles.

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
Signed by Obama in 2009, this act has 3 goals, to create and save jobs, longtime economic growth, and to foster unprecedented levels of accountability and transparency in government spending

New cyber-security office
He appointed a coordinator in charge of making sure our nation’s cyber security is protected. This was a way to ensure that the networks stay trustworthy and secure so that no major national cyber attack can happen.

Expanded SCHIP program
Obama expanded the SCHIP program (State Children’s Health Insurance) to provide health care for 4 million more children and pregnant woman

He gave the Department of VA $1.4 billion to improve services to Veterans

He provided funds to k-12 school to provide high-speed broadband Internet in classrooms

Worker, Homeownership, and Business Assistance Act of 2009
This gave tax credit to first-time home buyers that help the housing markets.

He ordered the operation that lead to the death of Osama Bin Laden

Food Safety law
He gave the Food and Drug Administration new authority to recall tainted food and to step-up inspections of food processing facilities.
This isn’t the complete list of everything Obama has done while in office but, it’s more than the average person knows! Remember: Barack Obama is the President of the United States and not the Second Coming. He is never going to walk on water or make a blind man see, but he is going to do whatever it takes to keep America free, stable, and secure.
